This album has 71 minutes of adventurous and diverse progressive music. It's mostly instrumental. There are vocals on parts of all the tracks, especially songs 2 and 3, which some people seem to be ok with but others seem not to like. Instrumentally though, it's really good- a lot of changes and complex arrangements, and a fairly wide range of keyboard and guitar sounds. The production definitely isn't slick, but it's intentionally somewhat raw.

The tension between David Paton's pop songcraft and Billy Lyall's art rock aspirations is one of the things that made the band Pilot so interesting. Lyall left Pilot because he felt that Paton's twee power pop ditties were overshadowing his arty songs, but the split was amicable enough that his former bandmates played on his lone solo album, Solo Casting. The result is not very different from what a Pilot album would sound like if Paton's potential hit singles were removed. Lyall was a classically trained pianist-turned-synth player, so the main stylistic difference between Pilot and Lyall's solo effort is the prominence of the synthesizer. …

Now, with their brand new (6th) album “Center Of The Great Unknown”, the band again offers a great slice of heavy melodic sounds on the verge of heavy metal and hard rock. The new piece of work takes the listener to the core of the earth, where “the center of the great unknown” can be found. This was perfectly pictured by artist Claudio Bergamin, who created the album’s front cover and booklet layout.

German thrash metal from the mid 80's seems to have a revival these days. Bands like Exumer and Accuser released new longplayers during the last couple of years, the eight first Kreator records have been re-issued as being part of the 'Noise lebt!' campaign and now it's Deathrow that gets back on the radar. DEATHROW’s third and most commercially successful album, "Deception Ignored" was originally released in 1988 and was a huge leap in turns of technicality and progression for the band after a small line-up change brought in some new influences.

In 2018, Asenblut is still an epic, furious, victorious and elegiac force to be reckoned with, a self-confident force about to let the regalia of German Pagan Metal bloom anew. Four songs from the band's early days, re-recorded and refined in the most perfect way, again by Mr. Sebastian "Seeb" Levermann (Orden Ogan) in his Greenman Studios. As a very special treat, Legenden also includes a cover version of Manowar's "God Or Man."

Progressive Rock, Neo-Prog

Short-lived neo-progressive rock band, formed in Germany in 1989. Influenced by the likes of MARILLION and SAGA, they presented themselves to the public with ''… a poet's soliloquy'' in 1994. Their interesting combination of the somewhat heavy electric guitars with the synthesizers flights and some good piano parts sounds quite tasteful and enjoyable. Vocalist Dick Bovensiepen has a singing-style resembling to a more aggresive FISH or Peter Nichols of IQ (yes, the English-sung vocals have the familiar German accent), while the album contains also some great hard rockin' tracks with good solos, nice grooves and a tight, almost-metal heavy rhythm section. This is not an exceptional work, however fans of keyboard-driven neo prog with balanced speeds and carefully-arranged compositions will like this a lot. A very decent starting point for DARIUS.
